Gosselin is reducing the environmental impact of international moving

Sustainability

Discover how Gosselin is reducing the environmental impact of international moving through practical ESG initiatives and responsible business practices.

Building a more sustainable future through practical action

Since 1930, Gosselin has been building its expertise in moving people and their belongings across Europe and beyond. Our long-term perspective gives us the stability and resources to invest in improvements, while our focus on our customers keeps us responsive to their changing needs.

We know that our activities have an impact on the world around us. That is why we are working to reduce our environmental impact, support our people and operate responsibly. International moving is a complex industry with a long and interconnected chain of packing, transport and storage, so meaningful change takes time. We focus on practical steps that fit our business and can make a measurable difference for every move we handle.

Gosselin Moving continuously improves its approach

Sustainability starts with how we work

Two of our core values, Conscious and Devoted, shape the way we approach sustainability.

For us, sustainability goes beyond reducing emissions. It also means creating a safe and healthy workplace, treating people fairly, respecting human rights, working responsibly and building lasting relationships with our customers, colleagues and partners.

Sustainability is something we work on together. Our Sustainability Focus Group brings colleagues from HSE, Quality, HR, IT, Finance and senior management together to turn ideas into action and consider sustainability across the organisation.

Our approach is built around People, Planet and Prosperity, with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) helping us focus on where we can make a meaningful contribution.

Where we are making a difference

Through a double materiality assessment, we have identified the sustainability topics that matter most to our business and stakeholders. This helps us focus our efforts where they can have the greatest impact. We are also continuing to improve how we assess our impacts, risks and opportunities.

Planet

We are working to reduce the environmental impact of every move.

Moving belongings more sustainably

Investing in our inland terminals in Antwerp and Genk to support a shift from road to inland waterways for shipping household goods

Moving belongings more sustainably

Expanding our electric fleet for cleaner last-mile deliveries to customers' new homes

Moving belongings more sustainably

Investing in solar energy for our warehouses and self-storage facilities

More sustainable facilities

Our INZA and Genk warehouses, used to store and consolidate moving shipments, are BREEAM-certified, reflecting our efforts to make our buildings more sustainable.

Reducing waste

Our Notabrownbox initiative replaces single-use packaging with reusable alternatives, helping to reduce waste in the international moving industry.

Understanding our impact

The FIDI Carbon Calculator helps customers understand the carbon footprint of their international move.

Sustainability - the people grow and thrive

People

Sustainability also means creating an environment where our people can grow and thrive.

We also believe that looking after our people extends beyond training and development. Health, safety, wellbeing and good working conditions are an important part of our responsibility as an employer — especially for the crews who handle physically demanding moving work every day.

Measuring progress

We are improving how we measure and report our sustainability performance.

We are developing targets and deadlines for the sustainability topics covered by the ESRS, while continuing to improve our double materiality assessment and the way we identify our impacts, risks and opportunities.

Our focus includes:

Establishing clear baselines

Developing measurable KPIs and targets with clear deadlines

Aligning our reporting with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)

Improving how we assess our impacts, risks and opportunities

A first step towards lower-carbon moves

In December 2024, Gosselin became the first moving company in Poland to launch a pilot allowing private customers to offset the CO₂ emissions generated by their move.

We see offsetting as a possible tool, but it does not replace reducing emissions at the source. Our priority remains finding ways to make our moves and services less carbon-intensive.

Our 2050 ambition

In line with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), our ambition is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

We know this cannot be achieved alone. Reducing emissions across our value chain will require close cooperation with our customers, suppliers and partners. Progress will also depend on the wider regulatory and business environment.

SDG Goals

Guided by the SDGs

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) give us a framework for focusing our sustainability efforts.

We have selected the goals where we believe Gosselin can make a meaningful contribution and use them to guide concrete actions across our business.

For us, the SDGs are not just a framework to refer to. They help us connect our sustainability efforts to broader goals and keep our focus on areas where our actions can have a real impact.

Our policies and commitments

Our approach to sustainability is supported by our wider commitments to quality, health, safety and environmental responsibility.
