Your move to Azerbaijan: expert relocation services
Moving to Azerbaijan means arriving in a country where East meets West; a nation on the shores of the Caspian Sea that blends ancient Silk Road heritage with the fast-growing energy capital of Baku. Azerbaijan is a country of striking contrasts. Baku's futuristic skyline and modern residential districts sit alongside the medieval walled Old City, while beyond the capital lie the Caucasus mountains, the vineyard regions and the historic towns of Ganja, Sheki and Nakhchivan. Adjusting to a new culture, a new language and a new bureaucracy at the same time is understandably stressful. Which is precisely why careful, early planning matters so much.
Gosselin Moving has spent more than 93 years guiding families, expats, diplomats and corporate professionals through international relocations exactly like this one, and our teams understand what makes settling into Azerbaijan distinctive.
Before the move: a few things to keep in mind
Most travellers require a visa or e-visa to enter Azerbaijan, and the requirements depend on your nationality and the purpose of your stay; work, family reunification, or long-term residence. Work assignments typically involve a work permit and a temporary residence permit, arranged in coordination with your employer or sponsor.
Because entry and residence rules can change, always confirm the current requirements on the official Azerbaijani government portals and with your nearest embassy or consulate before you travel. Gosselin's team can align your shipment timeline with your visa and residency milestones so your household goods do not arrive before you are able to receive them.
Rental housing in Baku ranges from modern apartments in central and seafront districts to family villas in the outer suburbs, and many expats begin with a short-term rental while they explore neighbourhoods. Leases, deposits and utility set-up are commonly negotiated with the help of a local agent, and terms can differ from what you may be used to at home.
Opening a local bank account, arranging currency transfers and understanding local tax obligations are best addressed early, ideally with professional financial advice. Coordinating your arrival, temporary accommodation and delivery of your goods is something our destination team factors into your personalised move plan.
Azerbaijan has both public and private healthcare, with private clinics in Baku generally being the preferred choice for expatriate families seeking English-speaking care. Comprehensive international health insurance is strongly recommended, as it broadens your access to private facilities and to medical evacuation cover where appropriate.
Bring an adequate supply of any prescription medication together with documentation, and check current import rules for medicines on the official government channels before you travel. Our specialists can advise on packing and declaring personal medical supplies within your household shipment.
Baku offers a number of international and private schools following international curricula, which are popular with relocating families. Places can be limited and demand is high, so early application, often well before your move date, is advisable.
Consider proximity to your prospective neighbourhood, curriculum continuity for your children, and enrolment documentation such as previous school records and vaccination certificates. Where school timing drives your move date, our coordinators build the shipment and delivery schedule around the start of the academic term.
Azerbaijan's economy is anchored by its energy sector, with growing activity in construction, logistics, ICT and services concentrated in and around Baku. Many expatriates arrive on corporate assignments, and local employment for accompanying partners typically requires the appropriate work authorisation.
Confirm work permit and registration requirements through official channels and your employer's mobility team. Whether you are a single assignee or an entire family relocating, Gosselin tailors the move, from a few essential boxes to a full household, around your professional timeline.

Overseas transport for your move to Azerbaijan
Overseas transport for your move to Azerbaijan is planned around three factors: the volume of your goods, your timeline, and your budget. For most intercontinental relocations, sea freight is the backbone of the move. A dedicated full container gives you exclusive space for larger households, while a shared-container option (Groupage) is a cost-effective route for smaller volumes, with your goods consolidated alongside other shipments heading the same way.
Where you need a small number of essentials to arrive quickly; documents, a laptop, a few personal items ahead of the main shipment. Air cargo is the faster option, at a higher cost per kilo. Most families choose a blend: essentials by air, the bulk of the household by sea.
The right formula is rarely obvious from the outside, which is why a dedicated move coordinator builds your itinerary end to end. Reconciling shipping method, transit windows and destination clearance into one clear plan. Because we manage the whole route rather than passing you between agents, there are no surprises in the middle of your journey.
Professional packing
Professional packing is what protects your belongings across a long sea journey. The handling, stacking and transit conditions of container shipping place real demands on how goods are wrapped, cushioned and secured. Poor packing is the single most common cause of avoidable damage, which is why Gosselin's trained crews pack to international standards rather than leaving it to chance.
With 93+ years of experience, Gosselin Moving's teams recommend a full professional pack for any intercontinental move. The low damage rates our clients report begin with the quality of that first wrap. We use eco-friendly packing materials wherever possible, and everything is inventoried so your goods can be checked off on delivery.
Our packing teams handle every category of household item, including:

Client experience: relocating to Azerbaijan with Gosselin
Overall, we had a very good experience with the service. The collection from two different locations was handled very efficiently, and the removal teams were fantastic: professional, friendly, and careful throughout the process.
There was a slight delay with the administrative support, which unfortunately affected the delivery schedule. However, on the actual delivery day, the team arrived an hour earlier than announced, which was a very pleasant surprise.
The delivery itself went smoothly, and the overall service was good, the removal teams were excellent, and we were satisfied with how our belongings were handled on their journey to their new home.
